They were very successful in providing plenty of New Orleans students with proper shoes. What them on their first shoe drop back in 2008.

New Tom's Shoes: Cordones

Finally TOM's gives us something we can tie!!! Ok don't get me wrong I love the original style of TOMS Shoes that you can slip on with ease. But I always wished there could be a little something more diverse, so I could stand out. Now that something is here...the Cordones. They have the same base idea as the TOM'S orginals, but now you have the option of wearing them with or without shoeslaces! I love the look of these shoes. They remind me of old shoes from the twenties or maybe shoes you go bowling in? In other words I think these shoes are pretty awesome. They have a saficiticated look that their earlier predicessors almost pulled off, meaning these shoes are business casual ready! I know the price might seem a little steap, running anywhere from $69-79, theses shoes are made to last and made out of quality material so they are worth it. Plus these shoes still follow the one for one philosiphy.

Tom's Shoes: The Facts

TOMS Shoes came about after Blake Mycoskie saw there was a necessity for shoes in many parts of the world. I don't know about you but I have always taken my shoes for granted, when I was younger one of my favorite parts of summer was that it was warm enough to go barefoot. I know that wasn't my mom's favorite part, because she was constantly getting after me to put shoes on saying "you don't know what kind of germs you gather on your feet." At the time I didn't know and I was ok with not caring either. However, things have changed, I have learned to consider things outside my environment. I've realized that many kids are not as lucky as I was when I could run around barefoot and not worry about catching any illnesses that may damage my future. This is not the case for many children...here are some facts about Toms and the children they help:
  • It is said that if the world was a village of 100...40 of them wouldn't have shoes!
  • Walking is the primary mode of transportation in third world countries
  • In some cases children have to walk miles barefoot just to get clean water or food, go to school, and even get medical help
  • Many children are deprived of schooling, because they are not allowed to attend school without shoes
  • Cuts and sores on the feet can lead to serious infections, this risks in only increased by the lack of unpaved streets, and dirty soil in many countries.
  • In Ethiopia, roughly one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
  • Podoconiosis is 100% preventable by wearing shoe...TOMS Shoes can be the cure!
